Yoga is a holistic practice for the body, mind and spirit. Yoga is for everyone and is so much more than just the practice of postures. No matter what Physical condition you are in there are some aspects of Yoga you can practise so you are never too old, unfit or inflexible to begin.
There are lots of benefits to be discovered through the practice of Yoga. Many of my clients say it has led to better health and well-being, increased their energy levels, improved their mobility, increased the focus of their minds whilst allowing a more relaxed state of being.
Group classes are often based around the practice of postures (Asanas) and they are a good introduction to yoga. Everyone can relate to the experience of physical tension and the discomfort that brings so the relief that you feel when this is released is a goal many seek. You do not need to tie yourself into a knot as the simplest movement or position can bring a powerful experience when done with awareness and focus of breath.
Breathing exercises (Pranayama) form another very important element in the Yoga class. They can help release blockages of energy within your body as well as raise your energy levels as a whole.
A Yoga practice should always end with deep relaxation. It is important to spend a period of time lying completely still to finish the session in order to let the many benefits you have gained through the practice to fully manifest. It helps achieve a peaceful state of mind and a feeling of having recharged your whole being.
